Who leads it
An agricultural economist with over 39 years' experience in agribusiness development and development finance. Formerly Head: Agri Business South Africa at Phatisa (six years), specialising in AgriBEE transaction advisory, and Divisional Manager: Agri Business at Ithala Development Finance Corporation (thirteen years) — where he managed the financing of the transfer of over 30,000 ha of land to black farmers, invested in several share-equity schemes and innovated finance products supporting land reform.
Specialties span agricultural development planning, agricultural finance and financial products, project planning and management, business strategy, financial modelling and value-chain analysis. He has served on several boards of agricultural companies and development and community trusts as vice-chairman, audit-committee chairman and non-executive director, and has delivered assignments across South Africa and 16 other African countries for private clients and DFIs including the World Bank, IFC and IFAD.
Chairman of the Siyakhula Sonke Trust and a non-executive director of VirtualRouteZ Holdings Limited.

25 years in financial services — ABSA, Standard Bank, Nedbank and Swiss Re Corporate Solutions — spanning agricultural finance, smallholder-farmer management, crop insurance and project management for multinationals and development agencies including TechnoServe, Cargill and Palladium. Expertise in blended finance, feasibility and investment readiness, credit-risk analysis, value-chain development and strategic partnerships.
Experienced in strategic management, market analysis, capacity building, brand development, project management, supply-chain analysis and business modelling. Formerly Regional Agribusiness Coordinator (Southern and East Africa) for an international agribusiness development company.
Affiliations
45 years' experience — 25 as a private consultant across Africa — in water-resources assessment, environmental impact assessment, irrigation and drainage design, installation and commissioning, irrigation scheduling and agricultural-potential evaluation. A member of Water Research Commission steering committees.
Chartered Accountant with 25+ years' experience and founder of Strategic Business Support (Durban). Focus on advisory work — fiduciary responsibilities, planning and strategy — with extensive private-equity and client transaction experience and a strong taxation background.
15 years in financial and commercial management in a large listed agri-business. Serves SMMEs and provides transaction-advisory support to corporates and land-reform community property institutions. Core competencies: financial modelling, taxation, funding requirements, corporate structures and governance.
Experienced in the Logical Frameworks methodology and in governance and leadership. Eleven years' project-management experience in land-reform projects, plus ten years as Director of TRAC-MP.
Instrumental in establishing several BEE forestry co-operatives; a company director who has helped land-reform communities improve corporate-governance compliance. Assignments in South Africa, Zambia and Mozambique.
Seasoned project manager and international fresh-produce trade specialist. Services to government, land-reform beneficiaries and the private sector in vegetable-production systems, abattoir design and flower-export projects; develops training manuals for emerging commercial agriculture.
